Hinting of fonts

Nice and comprehensive article about hinting: Why and how.Basically hinting a font is just for windows because the mac will hint
automatically. This happens to be necessary because of different font
systems on both platforms. 2 questions arise for me: 1. Wouldn’t it be possible to generate all missing hinting information
with the postscript rasterization process which is used on Macs. that we
wouldn’t have the awful unhinted stuff on windows. 2. On the Mac is the font-designer able to influence rasterization or
does he have no influence at all? And one dditional point:
This is really interesting. The mac philosophy seems much more
appropriate in our multiple-screen-device era (mobile phone, tablet,
desktop, beamers, …). We just need really good rasterizers per device
not hinting information per font and device.
